Coal Power Project at Port Qasim – EIA Report

Coal Power Project at Port Qasim, EIA Report presents an environmental and technical evaluation of the proposed 700 MW imported coal-fired power station by Datang Pakistan Karachi Power Generation (DPKPG) (Private) Limited. The plant will be constructed on 250 acres in the Eastern Industrial Zone of Port Qasim Authority, Karachi. The project involves installation of two 350 MW supercritical thermal units aimed at addressing Karachi’s growing electricity demand by replacing expensive high-sulphur fuel oil with a more affordable and efficient energy source. This initiative, sponsored by China Datang Overseas, CMEC, and K-Electric, also includes a coal jetty, fuel handling systems, water and wastewater facilities, and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems for emissions control.

The Environmental Impact Assessment outlines the potential impacts of the coal power project on air quality, water resources, land use, and public health, while proposing mitigation strategies to reduce environmental risks. The project is designed to provide sustainable, reliable, and low-cost energy for Karachi while complying with national regulations and international environmental standards. This EIA serves as a crucial tool for stakeholders, regulators, and planners in making informed decisions regarding energy infrastructure development in Pakistan.
