In 1995 the Eviction Watch program of the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights published the first report Eviction Watch Asia: Forced Evictions and Housing Rights Abuses in Asia by Denis Murphy and Minar Pimple. For the first time evictions were quanti fied in the region. Conservatively estimated, about 2 million people were robbed of their right to adequate shelter, and added to the number of homeless. These were the known cases documented by groups involved with housing rights issues.
