Malir Expressway Project – EIA Report
The Malir Expressway Project is being developed by Malir Expressway (Private) Limited to improve traffic flow with a 6-lane all-weather road built to international highway standards. Spanning approximately 38.75 km, the expressway starts near Jam Sadiq Bridge on Korangi Road along the Malir River and connects to the M-9 motorway near Kathor. The project includes six interchanges and passes through Malir and Korangi districts of Karachi. NESPAK and EMC Pakistan have conducted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to identify potential environmental impacts during pre-construction, construction, and operational phases, and to recommend mitigation measures.
The EIA complies with the statutory requirements of the Sindh Environmental Protection Act (2014) and the SEPA Environmental Assessment Regulations (2021), which classify the project under Schedule III – Category E (Transport), Subcategory 2 (highways over one km), requiring a detailed assessment. The report aims to support SEPA’s approval process by addressing environmental risks and proposing solutions to minimize adverse effects during the project lifecycle.
