Upgradation of Karachi Northern Bypass – EIA Report

The Upgradation of Karachi Northern Bypass project is part of the Government of Pakistan’s strategic initiative to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance trade and logistics efficiency across the country. This project aims to provide a safe, congestion-free, and high-speed multi-lane controlled-access highway to serve commuters and tourists, improving connectivity between Punjab and northern Sindh. It involves detailed design and cost estimation for upgrading the existing bypass to support sustained economic growth.

Karachi, located on the Sindh coast along the Arabian Sea, features diverse geographic elements including coastal plains, rocky hills, mangrove forests, and river systems such as the Malir and Lyari Rivers. The bypass lies within this complex environment, requiring thorough environmental impact assessment to mitigate potential ecological effects. This EIA report outlines the environmental considerations and proposes mitigation measures for the project to ensure sustainable development while supporting economic growth through improved trade and transport.
