The need for a suitable introductory treatise on the city of Karachi and its surroundings has long been keenly felt. With the permanent establishment of the Government of Pakistan in the city, this need has become more pressing than ever. In 1946, the present author published an extensive study titled Geology and Geography of Karachi and its Neighbourhood in two parts. Due to the challenges of printing and publishing at that time, only a limited number of copies were circulated, and the publication is now out of print. Until a second edition can be prepared, it is hoped that this concise book will serve to assist those interested in the city—particularly students and tourists.
