Low Income Segment and Urban Planning

On 06 October 2023, the Urban Resource Center organized a public forum titled “Low-Income Segment and Urban Planning — A Look at Land Use,” featuring speakers Arif Hasan and Dr. Noman Ahmed. The forum explored how land use policies and urban planning frameworks affect low-income populations in urban areas. The speakers discussed how existing zoning regulations, land allocation practices, and urban development priorities often marginalize the poor, pushing them to the peripheries or into informal settlements. The session emphasized the need for equitable land use policies that recognize the housing and livelihood needs of low-income communities as central to sustainable urban growth.
