Thar Coalfields Power Plant – EIA Report
EIA report evaluates the establishment of a 330 MW lignite coal-fired mine-mouth power plant by Thar Energy Limited in Thar Block II, Sindh. Located in the Thar Desert, the coalfields hold an estimated 175 billion tonnes of lignite coal, with the potential to generate over 100,000 MW of power for 200 years. The project is part of an Energy Park spanning 2 km² within the coal block, aiming to harness local coal resources for sustainable electricity generation. The project supports Pakistan’s energy security by utilizing domestic coal reserves to meet growing power demands. It is expected to contribute significantly to regional development while aligning with national goals for increased energy production and economic growth.
