Why Ladies Public Toilet Facilities Neglected

On 08 August 2023, the Urban Resource Center organized a public forum titled “Why Are Ladies’ Public Toilet Facilities Overlooked in the Planning Process?” featuring speakers Zofeen Ibrahim, Arif Hasan, Duha Alvi, and Nazhat Shireen. The forum addressed the longstanding neglect of women’s sanitation needs in urban infrastructure and planning. The speakers highlighted how the lack of safe, accessible, and hygienic public toilet facilities for women severely restricts their mobility, dignity, and participation in public life. The discussion emphasized that urban planning must move beyond gender-neutral assumptions and incorporate the specific needs of women to create more inclusive and equitable cities.
