Barge Mounted Power Generation Project – EIA Report
Barge Mounted Power Generation Project is a rental power project designed to generate 231.8 MW of electricity through two powerships mounted with engines operating on heavy fuel oil (HFO) and light fuel oil (LFO). These ships will be stationed at Korangi Creek near the Karachi coastline, adjacent to Ibrahim Haidri in Bin Qasim Town. The power generated will be supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (K-Electric) to help address energy shortages in the region and improve overall power availability.
The project includes all associated infrastructure for fuel handling, power generation, and wastewater disposal, ensuring compliance with National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS). Wastewater generated during operations will be treated before discharge into the sea. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) outlines the potential environmental impacts during construction and operation, and includes recommended mitigation measures to minimize ecological disturbance.
