On 08 June 2022, the Urban Resource Center held a public forum titled “An Overview of the Environmental and Social Impacts of the Malir Expressway,” featuring speakers Hafeez Baloch and Akhter Rasool. The forum discussed the various environmental and social consequences of the Malir Expressway project, focusing on its impact on local ecosystems, displacement of communities, and the potential disruption to livelihoods. The speakers highlighted the need for a balanced approach to urban infrastructure projects, one that incorporates environmental sustainability, community welfare, and long-term urban planning. The session also addressed the importance of conducting comprehensive environmental and social impact assessments before undertaking large-scale infrastructure projects.
