Korangi Thermal Power Station – EIA Report
Korangi Thermal Power Station, Capacity Enhancement Project EIA Report presents the Social and Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA) for a 220 MW capacity enhancement at the Korangi Thermal Power Station (KTPS), awarded to ECTECH Environmental Consultants by Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC). The project will be constructed on 15 acres of surplus land within the existing 38-acre KTPS facility in Ibrahim-Haidri Goth, Bin Qasim Town, District Malir, Karachi. No additional land acquisition is required for the enhancement. The plant will primarily use natural gas supplied by SSGCL, with high-speed diesel oil as a backup fuel source.
Korangi Thermal Power Station, Capacity Enhancement Project EIA Report ensures compliance with national regulations and international environmental standards, including those of the World Bank and IFC. The KTPS site is strategically located near the Korangi Creek, an area with important ecological and hydrological features, linking to the open sea through various creeks. The SEIA evaluates potential environmental and social impacts during both construction and operation phases, and outlines mitigation measures following IFC’s Performance Standards and World Bank’s Pollution Prevention and Abatement guidelines.
