Mehmoodabad Grid Station – EIA Report

Mehmoodabad Grid Station and Underground Transmission Line from Qayumabad Grid Station evaluates the environmental and socio-economic impacts of strengthening Karachi’s electricity infrastructure. The project consists of two components: the establishment of a new 132 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) grid station within the premises of K-Electric’s Mehmoodabad facility, and the laying of a 132 kV underground transmission line stretching approximately 7 km from the existing Qayumabad Grid Station located in the Korangi Industrial Area.

This project is a critical step in addressing Karachi’s growing energy demands and reducing transmission losses within the power distribution network. By introducing this new grid station and associated transmission line, K-Electric aims to ensure a more stable and reliable electricity supply, particularly for residents and businesses in the Mehmoodabad area. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to enhance network efficiency and support the broader objective of minimizing supply gaps in one of Pakistan’s most energy-intensive urban centers.
